Chaoskampf

“In his practice, Mikes Poppe explores, among other things, the weight of art history that contemporary artists carry. How can a young artist both honor and shed his influences? How does a new work evade associations with predecessors? How does a performer engage with both their own body and that of the viewer? How does a painter come to terms with the limitations and art historical baggage of the canvas? His photographic series Chaoskampf bears witness to this artistic struggle. The static images, in their layers, reference a moving body, and thus his performative practice.” (Tamara Beheydt – curator exhibion Paranoia – Bornem 2024)
